Will my animals get any attention, or are they just left in kennels? All the ‘kids’ staying with us get one-on-one attention on a daily basis. That is why we have specific office hours. The dogs go out onto the grass exercise runs 2 to 3 times per day. Between office hours we are playing with the animals; rubbing tummies, throwing balls, brushing out and just generally spending quality time with them.
What is Kennel Cough and why should my dog be vaccinated for it? Isn’t it included in the annual vaccine? Kennel cough is a type of infectious bronchitis. The name kennel cough is a misnomer as your dog can be infected at the park, grooming parlor, and in and around your neighborhood. We recommend the vaccine be administered at least 48 hours prior to admittance into kennels in order to give the immune system a chance to develop antibodies, helping to immunize them against kennel cough. Only one strain is covered in the annual vaccine, whilst the separate vaccine covers another 3 of the possible 5 or 6 strains.
What happens if my pet gets sick in kennels? La Brie Kennels and Cattery has a vet on 24 hour standby. Should the need arise we will happily transport pets to either the stipulated vet or our vet depending on the urgency and circumstance. We will endeavor to contact you or your specified emergency contact as soon as possible.
My dog/cat is in a sharing kennel. What happens if they don’t get on with the other animal? As with us humans our fury kids don’t always see eye to eye. Rest assured that we will not hesitate to play with our combinations in order to ensure that everyone is happy.
My cat/dog is on a specific diet and/or requires medication. Will you be able to do this? Of course! And at no extra charge. However ensure that all food and medication is clearly marked and is accompanied by comprehensive instructions, and please pack extra just in case you extend your stay.
My dog is sharing a kennel with another dog. What happens during feeding time? A staff member is present in the kennel to ensure that each resident enjoys their own meal, and the bowls are removed as soon as they have finished.
Why do I need to bring my own bedding? Bringing your own bedding helps the pets settle in faster as they have something that smells of home and is familiar to them. Please don’t launder a day or two prior to arrival.
What happens at night, is there anyone still around to look after the animals? I live on the property and am on constant alert for any changes in kennels. I regularly do night checks, especially during bad weather, to make sure that everyone is ok and settled.
My animals are like my children. How will they cope in kennels? We have set routines within kennels. This, as well as the one-on-one attention they receive from us, and the fact that they come in with their own bedding, toys and goodies which smell of home, helps them to settle in and adjust with ease.
